Wells Fargo BankIn November 2003 my credit card payment was late because when I tried to make the payment online on the due date, their system returned an error which said to try again later. I made the next day and spoke to my branch merchant account representative and she reversed the late charge, but apparently the late payment stayed on the record.
In February 2004 I made the payment on the 2nd of the month (which as it turns out was the last day of the previous cycle (unknown to me at the time) thinking that it would post the next day. Unfortunately the bank computer applied the payment to the previous cycle and then no payment showed for February.
In March, I see a late fee on the account and call the bank to figure out why. The representative could not figure out why even though she could see the payment on the 2nd of Feb. She referred it to her supervisor who then referred it to their internal technical support.
I left the country for 2 weeks of military reserve duty. When I return I find that I can no longer access my account. I call my representative and am told that because I missed the February payment and had another late within the past 6 months, that my account had been closed. He also informed me that because the February payment had been applied to the January billing cycle it did not count and that I had missed the Feb payment. He was unwilling to correct the situation and told me that I would have to keep the account up to date for 6 months and then they would consider re-opening it. When I complained that this was not my fault and he said he was sorry but that there was nothing he could do. I told him that there was something I could do and closed all of my Wells Fargo accounts and moved to another bank.
For my account reps flipant attitude on the phone, his unwillingness to correct the situation even though it was obvious what had happened, and the bank's quirky online banking system, Wells Fargo gets a grade of F and earns a spot on my website. No Sale!
