New look for the web site! In order to make our page more useful to our users as well as others on the internet, we have changed our page content. By linking to syndicated content from various internet sources, we now have news, and other articles on our web page. These items are updated at least daily, some more often than that. We continue to support the efforts of codeamber.org by displaying the Amber Alert banner at the top of our page as well as on the web mail pages. Please take a look at the new page content and feel free to send us your comments and suggestions.

A setting in the firewall was intermittantly blocking outgoing mail from the mailserver. Some mail may have been bounced back to the sender as undeliverable. This problem has been corrected and e-mail is now flowing uninterrupted. We are closely monitoring the firewall logs to make sure that legitimate traffic is not being filtered.

We have installed a new firewall at the datacenter for our servers. This should be transparent to all users, but should make our servers much more difficult for hackers to comprimise.

The new e-mail server is up and operational on the new network. We are monitoring it closely, but it appears to be working flawlessly at this time. The entire e-mail upgrade included a new server as well as an upgrade to the server software. The new software version will give us more tools for combating spam. We hope that you will notice an immediate reduction in the amount of spam you are receiving. Please let us know if you are receiving an unacceptable amount of spam in your mailbox.

In an effort to provide uninterrupted e-mail service, we have opted to upgrade the e-mail server as part of this move. We have purchased a new server for this which will give us an exit plan should we have trouble moving the service. The new server is configured and we plan to make the move on the evening of Oct. 29th.

Sunday, October 26, 2003

All servers have been moved to the new network except for the e-mail server. There were problems moving the e-mail server which prevented us from accomplishing that at this time. We will be moving that server as soon as we are able to.

Our new router has been programmed and we are currently testing the new connectivity. We plan to cut over to the new network during the weekend of Oct 25 & 26.

Friday, October 10, 2003

Our new circuit has been installed and tested. The new provider will be on site next week to program our new router.

Wednesday, October 01, 2003

In order to resolve the ongoing circuit problems we have been experiencing, as well as to provide increased bandwidth to our servers, we have ordered a new higher speed circuit to our data center from another provider.

The local telephone company replaced another part of the wiring between our data center and the local CO. We are monitoring the systems to see if that has corrected the problem.

Intermittant connectivity problems are continuing. We have opened yet another ticket with our network provider.

Monday, September 01, 2003

Our provider recommended that we swap out our router in the data center. We have done this and the system appears to be stable at the moment.

Thursday, August 21, 2003

After a short period of what seemed like a stable connection, we are once again experiencing intermittant connectivity problems. A new ticket has been opened with our network provider and troubleshooting is underway.

Friday, August 15, 2003

Our network provider and their provider are still troubleshooting the intermittant connectivity problems. Our management and engineering teams are discussing alternative solutions.

The data center is back on primary power. All systems are stable.

PG&E restored power and we are shifting the data center back to primary power.

We rented a generator on which the output voltage can be adjusted. The generator is now online powering all of the data center. We do not expect any more power issues today. The systems will run for over 1 hour on battery so even if there is an issue with the generator, we should ave enough time to deal with it. For now, we are stable on backup power.

We warmed up the generator and began transitioning the systems to backup power at which time we noticed that the output of the generator was too high. There is no way to correct that on this generator. We sent out an e-mail nitification to everyone to inform of the possible outage.

Due to a corrupt DNS record, out domain name combie.net fell off the internet today. The record has been corrected, but name resolution for combie.net may be sporatic for the next 12 hours. If you exprience intermittant problems getting e-mail, this is the cause. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Monday, March 31, 2003

PG&E informed us today that they will have the power off at our data center in Auburn California, from 8am to 3pm next Monday April 7, 2003. The systems in the data center are on battery backup systems, and will be running on a generator throughout the outage. Extra staff will be on hand to monitor the systems, and we do not anticipate any downtime.
